Council directs RFP for Harbor Master boathouse roof and boat lift funded by crime-prevention district

The Aransas Pass City Council considered a police department request to provide a gable boathouse roof and boat lift at the Harbor Master’s office, funded by the Crime Control and Prevention District. Staff presented three vendor quotes and six options from different companies and confirmed procurement protocol requires an RFP rather than direct award. Council amended the proposed item to explicitly direct staff to go out for an RFP and approved that motion on a voice vote.

Staff said quotes exist but indicated the formal RFP will be posted to give all vendors an opportunity to submit and that, if the Crime Control board runs its own procurement, staff will coordinate to ensure fair competition and compliance with purchasing rules. The item was not an award; council only authorized issuing the RFP and returning with award recommendations once the solicitation is complete.
