The Cass County Commission on Monday approved three measures aimed at supporting county public-health work, reducing operating costs for regulated waste and modernizing asset tracking.
A motion to extend a grant agreement with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for local public-health agency accreditation assistance was passed unanimously. County staff member Matt said the extension gives the county an additional year to spend funds that otherwise would have expired in November and described the award as "about $63,000 total," to be used largely for accreditation activities and portions of staff time.
The commission also approved a contract modification with Stericycle for regulated medical-waste pickup. Matt told commissioners the county will reduce pickups from monthly to quarterly for sharps and similar medical waste, which he said will "save us about 1000 dollars a year." The motion carried unanimously.
Finally, the commission approved a quote from Verisoft LLC (reference 16180) to license OpenGov software and services for asset management. Travis, a county staff member, described the purchase as a way to move off spreadsheets, improve planning and tracking for road projects, and provide easier reporting during leadership transitions.
The meeting opened the public-comment period for weather and roads, but no one spoke. Commissioners made a brief scheduling announcement noting there would be no meeting next Wednesday because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Before adjournment, the board voted to go into closed session citing RSMo 610.021(1) to discuss legal matters; a roll call was conducted and commissioners recorded affirmative votes to enter closed session. The commission said it would return to general session and adjourn thereafter.
