Franklin students report on national‑parks trip funded by Franklin Education Connection

Dustin Huddleston, president of Franklin Education Connection, told the council on Dec. 1 that the nonprofit partnered with the city and local sponsors to send students to four national parks in Utah and Arizona earlier in the year. The trip — funded in part by donations from local sponsors — included hikes in Capitol Reef, Zion (including the Narrows), Glen Canyon and Bryce Canyon.

Chaperones Macy Ulmer (science teacher) and Jennifer Rodman (school counselor) accompanied students who described their daily activities and learning experiences. Students reported multi‑mile hikes, wildlife observations, geological interpretation from park guides, and teamwork during extended hikes. One student described wading part of The Narrows and another called the views "absolutely gorgeous." Huddleston thanked donors including Davis Electric and other local supporters who helped offset costs so the trip was affordable for participants.

Councilmembers applauded the effort as an educational opportunity for students who have not traveled extensively and encouraged continued partnership between the city and Franklin Education Connection. No formal action was required.
