Boyle County signs on to regional on-the-job training grant that reimburses hiring wages

The Boyle County Fiscal Court voted to participate in a three-year on-the-job training (OJT) program funded through a $657,000 Bluegrass regional grant that runs through June 15, 2028.

A Kentucky Career Center representative described how the grant allows local employers to be reimbursed for up to 50% of wages paid to new hires during a training period that must be at least six weeks and may last up to 24 weeks; the per-hire reimbursement cap is $6,000. The representative said the program prioritizes veterans and other target groups and involves a prescreening checklist and a formal OJT agreement that the employer and the Career Center sign.

Magistrates asked about limits and confirmed that the reimbursement is paid after the county (or employer) pays wages; the Career Center pays the reimbursement retroactively. The court approved signing the OJT agreement and asked staff to coordinate a follow-up meeting with county HR to go over the administrative steps and prescreening requirements.
