Committee reviews backup PSAP lease and jury-management contract renewal

Maggie Yates and staff told the City of Spokane Public Safety and Community Health Committee on Dec. 1 that the city needs an interim backup center for emergency communications while it transitions to its own primary PSAP. Yates said the proposed interlocal lease with Fire District 9 would maintain space for both law-enforcement and fire dispatch, citing roughly $448 monthly rent and shared capital-improvement costs based on a roughly 12% occupancy footprint.

Separately, Amy (identified in discussion as Amy Hart) presented a three-year renewal of a contract with Spokane County and the superior court for jury-management services. Staff said the renewal pays a percentage of overall jury-management costs based on the number of trials and that 2024 costs were used for the year's estimates; jury-management functions include juror summonses, pool assembly and related administrative services.

Council members asked clarifying questions about the scope of jury-management services and about opportunities to collaborate on related court services. No committee votes or final contract approvals were recorded during the meeting; staff said legal and financial reviews had been completed for the lease item and that conversations on the PSAP transition would continue.
