Sheriff Mark Daniels told KWCD listeners that a recent fatality on Highway 92 occurred during a rainstorm when visibility was poor and a person walking a bicycle was struck. Daniels said the sheriff's office is limiting public detail while investigators and victim notification proceed.
Daniels emphasized that bicyclists and e-bike riders must obey the same traffic laws as motorists — including stopping at stop signs and not impeding traffic — and warned that unusual driving behavior, such as traveling far below the posted speed limit, can itself create hazards and may be an indicator of impairment.
He also issued a broader holiday safety advisory: slow down in fog, use headlights, and stop if you cannot see. Daniels cited two recent heavy-fog incidents on Highways 92 and 90 that reduced visibility for emergency responders. He urged drivers to prioritize victim notification and careful investigation before sharing details publicly.
