The La Porte Historic Preservation Commission received an update Nov. 19 about an ongoing Section 106 review related to housing proposals at 205 Remley Street, the former Coca‑Cola building.
At the meeting a commission member said she attended an Oct. 14 call with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources that included multiple agencies and stakeholders and that the commission had provided verbal recommendations as part of that process. According to the member, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority will issue a final letter summarizing the meeting and next steps.
The commission did not take a formal vote or direct staff to any specific action at the Nov. 19 meeting; members framed the item as an informational update to be tracked as the state agency completes its response.
The discussion flagged that the Section 106 review — a federal historic‑preservation review process invoked in projects using federal funds or requiring federal approval — is underway but provided no timetable for final decisions. The commission member who reported the update said she had not yet seen Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s final letter.
Commissioners did not provide a recorded staff recommendation, cost estimate, or a formal motion tied to the Remley Street proposal during the meeting. The item will remain on the commission’s radar as state agencies complete their interagency correspondence.
