Cobb County panel approves temporary Smyrna 2A polling-place move for Dec. 16 runoff

The Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration approved a temporary change to the Smyrna 2A polling location for the Dec. 16 special election runoff, moving the precinct from First Baptist Church in Smyrna to the Smyrna Community Center for that election only.

Elections Director Michael presented the office's recommendation, describing the new location as "just 0.3 miles down the road" from the church and within walking distance. He said the move responds to capacity concerns: the initially discussed collocation would have created too many voters at a single site and the American Legion parking would have been insufficient.

A board member moved to approve combining Smyrna 2A with Smyrna 3A at the Smyrna Community Center for the Dec. 16 runoff. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote; the chair announced the relocation passed 3-0 with two members absent. Board members noted the meeting memo initially referenced 'collocating' and that language caused some confusion, but confirmed the change was a relocation for this election only.

The board asked staff to ensure public notice of the temporary location change is posted and to confirm any logistical needs (signage, parking, voter flow) with the Smyrna Community Center ahead of the runoff. The board adjourned after scheduling upcoming meetings.
