South Lyon council approves $30,000 tentative CDBG allocation, senior center to receive majority

The South Lyon City Council voted to approve the city’s 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application, tentatively allocating $30,000 for projects in the city. Council members approved $25,500 for the South Lyon Senior Center and $4,500 for Haven of Pontiac, the staff recommendation ahead of the application deadline on Dec. 5, 2025.

Council member Hanson moved to adopt the funding plan after staff laid out the allocation limits — including a 15% cap on public service funding — and attached materials, which included an area‑wide benefit map and a letter from Haven requesting funding. "The suggestion is that the city will continue to use the allocation for 2026 to support the South Lyon Senior Center for $25,500 and also support Haven of Pontiac for $4,500," staff said at the meeting.

Council member Bogart disclosed she is a paid instructor with the South Lyon Senior Center and asked whether she should abstain; the council advised recusal and the roll call proceeded without her. City Clerk Deaton led the roll call and the motion carried among the remaining voting members.

The council’s action is a tentative allocation as part of the CDBG application process; final awards are subject to federal review and to the city meeting program and eligibility requirements.
