Council approves $63,494 F‑350 with V‑plow for DPW, adjusts equipment replacement fund

The South Lyon City Council approved a request from the Department of Public Works to purchase an F‑350 pickup equipped with a V‑style snowplow from Varsity Ford for $63,493.79, replacing one of the city’s 17‑year‑old trucks.

A DPW representative said the purchase will come from the vehicle replacement fund (GL account 642‑979.300) and noted the city is moving from straight‑blade plows to V‑plows because the latter are "so much more efficient" for clearing cul‑de‑sacs and other tight areas. Council member Hanson moved to approve the purchase; the council then approved a budget amendment increasing the equipment replacement fund line from $60,000 to $63,493.79 to reflect the price.

Council members asked about reuse or salvage of the existing plow; DPW said the old straight‑blade plows will be retained and used on other trucks until they are no longer serviceable. Delivery is expected by December 2025 and funds are budgeted for the fiscal year.
