Residents press Wayne County for traffic signal at Greenview and 7 Mile; commissioners press staff for improved crash data

Two residents urged Wayne County commissioners to install a traffic signal at the Greenview Avenue intersection with 7 Mile Road, saying existing crash counts and local observations support a signal while the county engineer's study did not account for timing and on‑the‑ground conditions.

Vincent Harden, a resident of the Greenview/McNichols area, told the committee he had attended the prior meeting and was "equally unimpressed by the answers" from the chief engineer, saying staff provided no evaluation timeframe or measurable criteria to revisit the intersection. Harden said the engineer told the committee there "wasn't enough of the metrics to support it," and asked commissioners to support a stoplight given recurring accidents.

Randolph Williams, a former police officer and neighborhood resident, said the engineer used too broad an area for crash counts ("Southfield to West Outer Drive") instead of block‑level counts near Greenview. Williams said community members have documented multiple crashes, including three incidents where buildings were struck, and asked staff to provide more granular data.

Several commissioners publicly agreed that the intersection had been the scene of serious crashes and voiced support for pursuing a signal. Following public comment, the committee voted to make the earlier package approvals contingent on receiving procurement and staff documentation about the engineering rationale for relevant items (items 2–6); the committee also requested that the procurement documents be provided to the committee chair and members before the full board considers the items.
