Wayne County forwards Women's Commission resolutions supporting menopause coverage and immediate, no-cost PPO service to state legislators

The Committee on Government Operations agreed to forward two advisory resolutions from the Wayne County Women's Commission to the state Legislature.

Commissioner Melissa Daub, a member of the Wayne County Women's Commission, asked the committee to support House Bills 4814 and 4815, which she said would improve insurance access for perimenopause and menopause care and "support Michigan's working families, strengthen the economy, and affirm health equity." Cynthia Douglas, chair of the Women's Commission, presented a second resolution backing Senate Bills 611 and 612, which commissioners said were introduced after recent domestic violence incidents in Wayne County; the bills would require personal protection orders (PPOs) to be served immediately and without cost to enhance timely enforcement and victim safety.

The committee approved forwarding both advisory resolutions to the state House and Senate. The Women's Commission is advisory; the resolutions are intended to inform state legislative action.

What comes next: the commission will forward the adopted advisory resolutions to the state House and Senate and staff will include the commission's endorsements in the packet sent to legislators.
