Commission backs NFTA grant request for dedicated travel trainer to assist seniors and riders with disabilities

Facilitator Brenda McDonough reported that she had prepared and submitted a letter of support on behalf of the Commission for an NFTA grant application to fund a dedicated travel‑trainer. The travel trainer position would provide one‑on‑one trip‑training and confidence‑building assistance for seniors and people with disabilities who use the island’s public transit and dial‑a‑ride/paratransit service.

Brenda said she believes a dedicated travel trainer would “enhance mobility and independence” for older residents and riders with disabilities and that the Commission’s letter underscores local support for the application. No funding decision or award was announced at the meeting.
