Board approves change orders for school site projects, modular classroom installation and routine consent items

The Southern Kern Unified School District board approved multiple construction change orders and other consent agenda items during the meeting, including modifications to landscaping and classroom installations and routine personnel approvals.

Board members voted to approve change orders with Medallion Construction for Tropical Middle School landscaping and drainage work and to reimburse architects for a portion of irrigation work that was later reassigned. They also approved a change order tied to additional vents and grate work for a classroom foundation and acknowledged the architect’s reimbursement responsibility for a portion of earlier costs.

The board approved a change order with American Modular Systems (AMS) to allow weekend crane installation for pre-K/TK modular classroom placement at West Park Elementary; the AMS change order totaled $7,975 (board materials show the amount is 50% of the extra crane‑time cost negotiated with the vendor). Trustees discussed scheduling the crane work outside regular school hours for safety and voted to approve the item by voice vote.

Trustees also approved a list of personnel items by motion and then moved to adjourn the meeting.

Next steps: district facilities and construction staff will proceed with scheduled installations and coordinate procurement and reimbursement details as approved by the board.
