During the Nov. 20 meeting the Madison County Board of Education completed its annual reorganization and routine administrative business.
Nominations were received for board president and vice president; David Best was nominated and approved by voice vote as president and Bill Byrd was nominated and approved as vice president. Members thanked outgoing officers for their service.
The board approved several administrative items by motion and voice vote, including 2025–26 supplemental pay for teachers on special assignment; the Madison County School System high school academic guide for 2026–27 as submitted; approvals of bids and contracts for services; personnel items; and supplemental contracts. Each recommendation from the superintendent was moved, seconded and adopted by an affirmative voice vote.
The board also pulled Item 7 from the administrative items list because it was not ready for action and subsequently approved a motion to move into executive session to discuss a land matter. The public portion of the meeting recessed for executive session.
What’s next: The executive session was convened for the land discussion; no further public votes or contract awards on Item 7 were recorded before the meeting moved to the closed session.
