Council advances park improvements and resurfacing contracts, highlights projects for newly annexed areas

The Mobile City Council on Nov. 18 approved several capital-improvement projects and contracts: a purchase order to GameTime for new playground equipment at La Verita Park; an authorized contract with Person Services Corp for Figures Park Community Center mechanical improvements; and a contract with Rogers and Willard for Taylor Park Community Center improvements, described by a council member as a multi‑million dollar revitalization for Baltimore Street.

Council also authorized resurfacing work under the 2026 CIP for multiple council districts and approved a contract with Dorsey and Dorsey Engineering for District 6 resurfacing plans. Council members emphasized that some of the resurfacing funds target newly annexed neighborhoods — Cameron, Carrington West, Windmill, Cottage Hill Estates, Lamplighter, Hillcrest Crossings and The Timbers — and said the work represents a first step in bringing annexed areas up to standard.

Councilman Reynold noted a consolidated allocation that included unspent funds from previous years to increase resurfacing capacity in District 4. Several council members said ongoing outreach and communication with neighborhoods will accompany construction schedules.

The consent calendar including these items was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Council also approved a contract authorization with Iron Bow Technologies for cybersecurity services and a planned transfer of rights-of-way from the Alabama Department of Transportation to the city for additional lanes on Ziegler Boulevard.
