MPD implementation unit outlines policy, training, Benchmark transition and community engagement plans

Bureau Chief Ayodele Famodu and an implementation unit presenter briefed commissioners on several operational items tied to implementing settlement‑related reforms.

Famodu emphasized IA’s workload and the need to prioritize investigative work: "Miss Hastings very significantly underrepresents the time commitment that she puts in... We are unable to get through our primary mission," he said, describing frequent benchmarking meetings and competing daily demands.

An implementation unit presenter said the department is transitioning to a new records and case management system called Benchmark and expects a pilot in the coming months. The unit reported having two of three community engagement positions filled, is developing a citizens academy and culture education series, and named Sgt. William Wright as a contact for scheduling ride‑alongs.

On policy and training, the presenter listed recently approved policies (use of force, crisis intervention, nondiscriminatory policing, procedural justice, emergency medical response, body‑worn camera, officer wellness) and noted that training cannot begin until ALFA approves training materials. He said training dates are tentative and tied to policy approval timelines.

The commission received and filed the implementation unit update; commissioners asked follow‑up questions about training timelines and data dashboards.
