Cullman County Commission approves grants, purchases and appointments in routine December meeting

The Cullman County Commission completed a routine agenda of recognitions, grants, purchases, appointments and procurement actions at its meeting. Major approvals included ratifying grant applications, multiple equipment purchases, board appointments and several bid renewals.

Key approvals: The commission ratified an AMAS grant application for $21,000 and a DECA grant for $150,000 to fund sheriff’s office radio upgrades; it ratified the purchase of sanitation trucks from Ingram Equipment for $1,204,000; approved a $15,000 request for library restroom renovations; and authorized a $20,000 payment to the city of Hanceville for Mud Creek cleanup. The commission also approved renewal of insurance with Hickelbach in the amount of $856,246.

Procurement and bids: The board approved a range of procurement items including a tilt skillet for the detention center ($25,695.55), an enclosed trailer ($10,600), two manufactured modular cabins ($108,150), a 4x4 vehicle for the water department ($42,682) and multiple quotes for metal buildings and materials. Several bid awards and one-year extensions for supplies and construction materials were approved by voice votes.

Appointments and personnel items: The commission approved appointments including a four-year library board nominee (Brooke Demond Mones as read on the agenda) and Eli Howard to the Narco revolving loan fund board for a three-year term. The meeting also recognized multiple county employees retiring after service, including James Arnold, Judy Bradford, Joyce Echols, James Ferrero and Lydia Smith.

Scheduling and other business: The commission announced its next work session and meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025 (4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively) and approved closing the courthouse Friday, Dec. 26, 2025. Most items on the agenda were passed by voice vote with motion and second recorded in the minutes.
