Mahomet-Seymour board approves safety assessment, policies and routine contracts; displays estimated tax levy

Mahomet-Seymour CUSD 3’s Board of Education on Nov. 17 approved several operational measures and routine contracts and authorized display of the district’s estimated tax levy for public notice.

The board approved a revised safety and security assessment from Safe Havens for $38,986, down from a previously proposed $44,996, with superintendent recommendation that the district use tort funds to pay for the work. The superintendent said the assessment will examine facilities and procedures and that the district expects the team to begin work in January.

Also approved on motions were a second-reading update to the transportation handbook (approved pending final grammatical edits), a one-year lease renewal for technology space at Sangamon on Main, a school-maintenance project grant submission for Lincoln Trail (covering HVAC and a dryer-vent fix), and a snow-removal contract from the successful RFP respondent. Administration reported the transportation handbook had not been substantially revised since 2015–16 and that final editorial corrections would be handled by staff.

Donations and in-kind gifts reported and approved totaled $57,326. Noted gifts included $20,000 from Randall (Randy) Meyer for Lincoln Trail playground improvements, $10,000 from Pam Kurtz to a youth leadership club at Lincoln Trail, $6,000 and $3,000 from the Booster Club for athletics and hurdles, $1,000 from the Mahomet-Seymour Basketball Association for facility use, $1,226 from Steve and Kimbra Baker for volleyball, $500 from We Produce LLC to the FFA fund, and $1,500 in-kind apparel from Unique Creations for families in need.
