Issaquah colleagues honor outgoing Council Member Ray at final committee meeting

Council Member Ray was honored by colleagues and Mayor Polly at the start of the Nov. 18 Services, Safety and Parks Committee meeting as members marked his final public meeting after eight years of service.

Mayor Polly listed Ray’s roles—service on Eastside Fire and Rescue’s board, participation in King County growth management planning bodies, and leadership on ad‑hoc finance and council rules committees—and presented a plaque on behalf of the city. "You brought a real, real, strong financial responsibility ethic with you, and you carried it through your entire 8 years of service," the mayor said.

Ray offered brief remarks, calling the eight‑year journey "an amazing ... journey," and declined an extended address. Colleagues recounted examples of his committee leadership and personal qualities; the Deputy Council President described Ray as "a very kind person" whose "financial wisdom" and collegiality will be missed. The meeting concluded with additional remembrances before adjournment.

No formal personnel action was taken; the recognition was ceremonial and took place at the beginning of the committee meeting.
