BEXLEY — At first reading Nov. 18, Bexley City Council considered Ordinance 33‑25, a proposal to adjust city water and sewer rates in response to proposed increases from the City of Columbus.
Staff told council that Columbus plans an 18% increase for wholesale water charges and an 8% increase for sewer; Bexley’s proposed approach is to pass through Columbus’ increases while holding Bexley’s internal rate component steady for 2026 (effectively reducing the overall local increase to a smaller net figure by not adding the city’s usual internal percentage). Administration said the city is coordinating with other affected jurisdictions to press Columbus for moderation but cautioned that the wholesale proposal is largely outside Bexley’s control.
Councilmembers and staff agreed more detail will be distributed before subsequent readings so residents can review projected bill impacts. The matter remains at first reading and will return to council for further consideration.
