School Committee approves annual 504 notice and a student voter-engagement plan

The Medford School Committee unanimously approved two administrative resolutions on Nov. 18 aimed at improving family communication and civic engagement.

Resolution 2025‑36 (introduced by Member Entapa) directs Health Services and Student Services to draft a yearly notice for families explaining 504 plans, eligibility and how to apply. Administration noted that 504 plans follow an eligibility process similar to IEPs and said updated guidance and a frequently‑asked‑questions document are being posted to the district website.

Resolution 2025‑37 (also introduced by Member Entapa) asks the superintendent to convene an ad‑hoc committee that would work with the local Registrar of Voters to expand voter education, preregistration and identify common barriers for students. Members suggested involving the Student Advisory Council and city youth outreach staff; the motion was amended to encourage student participation and to request statistics that can measure impact.

Both measures passed by roll call (7–0). Committee members said the actions are intended to make existing processes clearer and to increase civic knowledge among students.
