Division staff presented Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) and landowner‑permit recommendations at the Nov. 12 Northern RAC meeting and clarified several changes to acreage and tag allocations.
Staff said Salt Wells CWMU in Box Elder County will reduce acreage by 28,614 acres, which corresponds with reductions in the number of deer and bighorn tags previously associated with that CWMU. Darren noted that the meeting packet’s acreage column had mistakenly shown "0" for that item and provided the correction during the presentation.
On Patmos Ridge, staff explained a reciprocal‑tag program that allows participating CWMUs to accept partner permits on cooperating units; those additional tags are intended to be used on partner lands when animals move across properties. Staff said some of the added tags are intended for special‑needs hunters (for example, wounded‑warrior programs) and that biologists believe the harvest can be sustained at the proposed levels.
A question was raised about Beaver Hollow as a moose‑only CWMU; staff confirmed that Beaver Hollow’s current listing is for moose. RAC members moved to accept the recommendations and the motion passed unanimously.
The RAC’s approval will allow staff to proceed with permit issuance and associated administrative updates.
