The Maricopa Unified School District governing board voted on several routine actions at its Nov. 12 meeting before moving into executive session.
Vice President Patty Cutre moved to adopt the agenda "as written," a motion that was seconded and recorded as approved with ayes from Ben Owens, Patty Cutre and President Robert Downey. Later the board approved the consent agenda and the personnel (HR) schedule after discussion of paraprofessional turnover and retention efforts. Mr. Beckett told the board the district has an active retention committee addressing classified and certified staff turnover.
Finally, the board voted to adjourn into executive session under the statute cited in the agenda to discuss a student disciplinary proceeding and student appeal; the motion to convene executive session carried with recorded ayes from Ben Owens, Patty Cutre and President Downey. No public actions were taken during the public portion of the meeting after the executive session vote was recorded.
