Commission discusses zero submissions to logo contest, FY27 budget planning and allowable spending

At the Nov. 12 meeting, commissioners covered several administrative items: the logo art contest drew no submissions to date and commissioners debated timing, target audiences and platforms for relaunching the call for entries; staff advised running a mid‑January call with a 2–3 week submission window and reminders via Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor and the town website.

"We got 0 submissions," the chair said when raising the contest. Commissioners suggested targeting college and high‑school art departments or narrowing the call’s audience and timing it after the holidays to increase participation.

Staff presented budget figures: the diversity commission’s FY26 budget is $3,850 and the commission has spent $183 so far in the July‑to‑June cycle. Staff told commissioners a website language translation annual subscription will renew in April for $792 and will be paid from the commission’s budget. Commissioners asked about allowable expenditures; staff said gift cards cannot be donated and will confirm what programming or consultant contracts the commission may fund.

The commission agreed to revisit the contest timeline at a future meeting and to finalize budget items by the December 10 adoption deadline noted by staff. A motion to adjourn closed the meeting; no formal recorded votes on budget adoption or contest policy were taken at this session.
