The Sugar Land Planning and Zoning Commission on Nov. 11 approved a one-year extension for the John Sharp Drive street dedication and lift station preliminary plat in the Abbey Lakes development.
City staff described the parcel as about 8.75 acres in Track 2 of Abbey Lakes, noted multiple zoning designations on the tract (R1, R1Z and M1), and said the plan calls for John Sharp Drive (also described as Owens Road) and a lift station. Staff outlined prior approvals, including a 2022 settlement and development agreement, creation of Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 234, a rezoning action (transcribed as ordinance "20 two-sixty 3"), and work that remains: coordination on a railroad crossing with Union Pacific and review by the Texas Water Development Board.
Staff recommended the one-year preliminary-plat extension to maintain the preliminary-plat approval through Dec. 10, 2025, unless the commission granted another extension. Commissioners asked whether utilities and detention work might begin by year’s end; staff said some utility work could start and that county construction to the west could provide alternate access if the railroad crossing lags.
A motion to approve the requested one-year extension was made and seconded; Commissioner Bradley Tilton participated in the second. The motion passed by voice vote, 7–0.
