The Dinwiddie County Planning Commission opened its Nov. 12 meeting by acknowledging the death of former Planning Commissioner Reverend Dr. Thomas E. Tucker Jr. The chair asked the commission to observe a moment of silence and the board read a resolution commending Dr. Tucker’s 19½ years of service to the county.
The resolution states that Dr. Tucker served on the Planning Commission from June 20, 2006, to Nov. 12, 2025, served as chairman in 2011 and 2022, and contributed to comprehensive land‑use plan efforts and several county committees. The resolution was read into the record and copies were directed to be presented to Dr. Tucker and spread upon the minutes.
Commissioners and staff recalled Dr. Tucker’s personal contributions. Planning staff noted that Tucker frequently emphasized recreation and safety in subdivision planning and offered substantive, citizen‑focused input at meetings. One commissioner recalled that Dr. Tucker often attended meetings wearing a Washington Commanders cap and that he was a minister—memories underscored by offers from commissioners and staff to assist with memorial arrangements.
The commission closed public business after the tributes and adjourned. No formal policy changes or actions were taken in connection with the memorial.
