Fairfield County administrator announces departmental reorganization, promotions in public works and community safety

County Administrator Burrows reported organizational changes during the Nov. 10 Fairfield County Council meeting intended to streamline operations and support service delivery.

Burrows said the county will restructure operations so Animal Control becomes a standalone department focused on enforcing animal care and control ordinances and will split the animal shelter into a separate unit with its own manager. Burrows said "Miss Shaw will assume responsibility as an animal control manager." He added that the current emergency management director, Joey Price, "has been promoted to director of community and safety services" and will assume oversight of the detention center, animal control and shelter, emergency management and 911.

Burrows also announced that Colonel Robinson, the county's current solid waste manager, has been promoted to director of public works; Robinson has worked in the department since 2005 and served as solid waste manager since 2019.

Joey Price, present at the meeting, thanked the council for the opportunity and said his priority is serving the county and supporting first responders.

Burrows also reminded council of a Nov. 20 work session at 10 a.m. at the Fairfield County Council on Aging to review steps necessary to conduct a referendum on a capital project sales tax.

Council members offered congratulations to Price and Robinson; no formal vote was required for the personnel announcements presented during the administrator's report.
