Committee approves Hershberger rezoning to advance to full board meeting

The Adams County Planning and Zoning Commission approved a rezoning request by applicant Benny Hershberger to change an 11.69-acre parcel from R-1 (single-family residential) to A-3 (secondary agricultural). The committee's approval was conditioned on scheduling the matter before the full Board; staff said the full-board hearing is set for the following Tuesday, the 11th, at 6 p.m. at the same location.

Staff reported that the Adams County Highway Department raised no concerns and that the town of New Chester did not object and followed its notice procedures. Hershberger told the commission he purchased the parcel last November and sought the rezoning because he had been denied a permit for a barn and wants to keep horses on the property.

A commissioner moved to approve the request; the motion was seconded. The committee carried the motion on a roll-call vote. Staff instructed the applicant about the full-board hearing date and venue.
