Brownfield authority reports three new ESA grant applications and $206,912 available in FY26 funds

The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority received an update on the Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) grant program. Staff reported three new ESA grant applications since the previous report: a Lafayette Avenue mixed‑use proposal (736 Lafayette) requesting up to $20,000 for Phase I/II assessments; an expansion for Extreme Demolition at 1525–1545 Buchanan SW requesting up to $28,000 for Phase I/II work and noting a projected 25 new jobs; and a United Methodist Community House request at 904 Sheldon for Phase I plus lead/asbestos assessments (about $14,800) tied to an early‑childhood expansion that could add roughly 88 child seats and 24 jobs.

Staff reviewed the FY26 ESA appropriation ($274,412), noted $67,500 in encumbrances for projects and reported a remaining available balance of approximately $206,912 for the rest of fiscal year 2026. The board moved, seconded and approved the activity report so applicants can submit reimbursement requests once they meet program requirements.
