San Antonio historic-review panel approves minutes and consent agenda; neighborhood supporter raises design concerns

The Commission of Historic Review for the City of San Antonio met Nov. 5 and approved the Oct. 15 minutes and an 11-item consent agenda, including Item 9, following staff recommendations and stipulated conditions.

Robert Huster, representing the neighborhood association (Monticello/Montacheno Park Architectural Review Committee), testified during the consent portion that the group "apoyamos las recomendaciones del personal" but raised five design concerns about one property: "la forma del techo es arbitraria," "las columnas y sus tamaños no son proporcionales," and doubts about whether the parking area was realistically sized to allow vehicle access. Huster also noted the drawings "no muestran ninguna estructura que apoye" the proposed elements.

Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the consent agenda and Item 9 with the staff’s stipulated conditions. Chair James Maris Gibbs reminded applicants that, if approved, Certificates of Appropriateness will be mailed within 10 days and that no work should begin until the proper permits are secured. Commissioners directed applicants and staff to follow up where neighborhood concerns remain and to ensure that separation distances and other code requirements are addressed in subsequent administrative reviews.

The meeting record shows a roll-call vote for the consent motion; the chair listed the properties included on the consent agenda and advised that owners need not remain for the rest of the meeting if their certificates are to be issued.
