Council authorizes Terrell PD to apply for state funds for bullet‑resistant vehicle components

The Terrell City Council approved Resolution No. 2277 authorizing the Terrell Police Department to apply for Office of the Governor funds to equip patrol vehicles with bullet‑resistant components.

Police staff told council none of the department’s marked patrol vehicles—other than a federally supplied tactical vehicle—have factory bullet protection and said the agency would apply for available grant funding to equip multiple vehicles. Staff indicated the grant carries no local match requirement and that the department will scope the number of vehicles to include in an application after council authorization.

Councilmembers expressed support for measures to improve officer safety and urged staff to proceed with the application.
