Dalton approves voluntary MASA Access medical-transport benefit for employees

The Dalton Mayor and Council on Nov. 3 approved an agreement to offer MASA Access medical-transport coverage to city employees as a voluntary benefit.

Halima, a human-resources staff member, described the program as a voluntary, payroll-deduction benefit that provides access to emergency ground and air ambulance transport and interfacility transfers. She said the coverage includes tiers of protection, is secondary to employees’ existing health insurance, and requires employees to be enrolled in a health plan to receive the benefit. Halima said the agreement had been reviewed by the city attorney.

A council member moved, seconded and the council approved the agreement by voice vote.

Staff said the benefit and its interactions with employees’ existing insurance would be explained during open-enrollment sessions and in the benefits booklet the city provides.
