The Wright County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proclamation Oct. 27 designating November as Operation Greenlight for Veterans and asking citizens to display green lights to honor service members transitioning from active duty.
Chris Oliver of Wright County Veterans Affairs presented the proclamation, noting that the county will illuminate its bell tower in green and highlighting the role of county veterans service officers in helping veterans access federal benefits. The proclamation cites national data on transition stress and the importance of local veteran service support.
Board members moved and seconded adoption of the proclamation; the vote carried with all supervisors voting in favor. In discussion, the county veterans service officer described training and accreditation requirements, recent state administrative‑rule changes affecting Chapter 35B, and concerns about the removal of prior language describing the $10,000 startup/reimbursement line that counties previously received to support CVSO operations and travel.
The veterans officer asked supervisors to stay engaged on the administrative‑rule changes and training requirements because changes could affect small counties' ability to attend national training and maintain accreditation. No formal board action was taken on the administrative‑rule concerns during the meeting.
