Huntington Woods Mayor Bob Paul told the Berkeley Area Chamber State of the Cities breakfast that his city is finishing this year's road and utility projects and making staff and facility investments ahead of its 100th anniversary.
Paul listed projects including a nearly complete traffic signal at 11 Mile Road and the City Hall entrance, sidewalk and curb work, water and storm-main replacements on Newport and Scotia streets and a full replacement of street signs. He said the traffic signal will calm traffic, improve the crosswalk and allow public-safety control for emergency vehicles.
The city recently completed a renovation of the commission chamber, installed electric-vehicle charging stations at City Hall, placed solar panels on city buildings and promoted long-serving employees into leadership roles, Paul said. Several staff members with 20-plus and 25-plus years of service were recognized for long tenure.
Paul said Huntington Woods is finalizing its parks and recreation master plan and will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. He closed by reminding residents to vote in the November election and by declaring the state of the city "excellent."
