Airport runway extension begins; September flight counts highest month so far this year

Airport staff told the Washington Area Transportation Committee on Oct. 27 that work on a runway‑extension project began last week. During initial pavement marking removal, crews encountered localized pavement deterioration that required additional patching; contractors completed the repairs and work continues into the next construction phase.

Operations data supplied to the committee show September had 387 total flight operations — the most for the year — and October had about 203 operations to date. Fuel sales were about 5,500 gallons in August and 4,300 gallons in September; staff said they will include charts and year‑to‑date comparisons in the meeting packet.

The airport manager said the extension is in active construction and that staff will provide further updates and data in future packets.
