City reports $675,000 sales-tax audit recovery that boosted September revenues

During the Oct. 28 Bee Cave City Council meeting, finance staff explained a large, unanticipated sales-tax payment that boosted the city’s September figures.

The finance briefing said a sales-tax audit consultant identified a company that had not been reporting sales tax to the city; the consultant’s work led to an audit adjustment and a $675,000 payment representing several years of previously unreported taxes. The mayor and council noted that Bee Cave relies heavily on sales tax revenue to fund city services and keep local property taxes low. "We’re happy to get this mystery company's years' worth of sales tax that should've been paid to the city," Mayor King said during the meeting.

The payment was discussed during consideration of the finance and investment report for the period ending Sept. 30, 2025. Council removed item B from the initial consent motion to address it separately and later approved the finance report; the approval was unanimous.

Staff did not identify the company by name at the public meeting but said the recovery was identified through the city's audit consultant and noted that cities receive a portion of statewide collections under Texas sales-tax procedures.
