Carmel officials review Car Week operations; peninsula chiefs plan broader debrief

City officials and public-safety leaders reviewed Car Week operations, praised on-the-ground responses and announced a peninsula-wide debrief to coordinate regional policing and event management.

At a briefing, city leaders thanked police and fire personnel for their work during Car Week. A speaker thanked the department and said, “It was just a beautiful event. A tremendous amount of people in cars, and the officers and the team at the department did a great job holding down the fort.”

Officials said they will convene peninsula chiefs and city administrators for a debrief to share lessons and coordinate responses to growing side-street “side shows” and social-media-driven crowding. The meeting was scheduled for Wednesday the 10th in Monterey (Lord Nelson Room or conference room) and will include colleagues from Marina and other peninsula jurisdictions; lunch will be provided.

City officials also noted that city services will observe an upcoming holiday closure of City Hall but that critical services—police, fire, ambulance and public works—will remain available and that emergency calls should go to 911; the police main line (as given at the meeting) is 624-6403 for non-emergencies.
