The South San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a bonus and equity‑based salary enhancement package for the 2025–26 school year during its April 14 meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Hinojosa told trustees the district had already advertised the sign‑on bonuses and stipends and was now formally approving the compensation package so prospective hires understand the commitments. He said the incentives have been an effective recruitment tool: the district has offered 11 contracts in recent weeks and reported hiring 26 new teachers after restructuring central‑office positions.
Board members thanked human resources staff for recruitment work; Dr. Hinojosa credited HR for attending job fairs and coordinating principals’ interviews. He said the district is reallocating positions and offering stipends in high‑need areas to attract certified teachers and noted a plan to cap certain unit classes at 12 students with a $7,500 stipend for teachers assigned to those classes. The superintendent said those steps, combined with restructuring, freed roughly $3 million in central‑office salary savings the district can reallocate.
The motion passed on a roll call vote (Raymond Tijerina: yes; Carla Gomez Sanchez: yes; Darryl Balderrama: yes; Aurelina Prado: yes; Jesus Rendon III: yes; Adrian Guerra: yes; Dr. Kelly Murguia: yes). The district will implement advertised bonuses and enhancements for the coming school year and will continue reporting recruitment progress to the board.
