The Sherman County Board of Commissioners voted to approve use of the county fairgrounds for a mud-race event tentatively scheduled Sept. 13, with setup and teardown days before and after the event.
The event organizer said pits will be dug in the former arena area and that the county pit-digging contractor (Rod Rotor) would dig and refill pits; commissioners said the pits must avoid buried utilities and the north-side power line. The organizer told the board the Kansas Motor Race Organization sanction would cover insurance for participants and recommended that the county review the promoter insurance certificate.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the Sept. 13 date; the motion included the condition that the organizer provide the insurance contract to county staff (Mr. Magnum) for review. The motion passed by voice vote.
The organizer estimated typical turnout at similar regional events between about 30 and 80 participating trucks and said spectator turnout is variable. Commissioners asked the promoter to share the insurance documents once available and to coordinate pit digging and site restoration with county crews.
