Mayor says Kenner won $4 million LDEQ loan to upgrade three sewer lift stations

In his opening report to the City Council on June 30, Mayor Glazer said Kenner received a ceremonial check from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ): a $4,000,000 loan for wastewater improvements that will fund work at three lift stations.

The mayor said the loan will pay to relocate lift stations that are currently on canal banks into new submersible street-level lift stations and to enlarge the Saint Jude sewer lift station near Loyola (said to be behind the Walmart and Ochsner) because the existing station is near capacity and the city expects additional demand from a planned 900-unit apartment complex. "So that's what this $4,000,000 loan is for, those 3 projects," the mayor said.

He characterized the announcement as "short and sweet" and thanked council members. No ordinance or vote was required at the meeting for the ceremonial presentation; the mayor framed it as a state loan award to be used for planned wastewater-capacity upgrades.
