The county manager provided several informational updates to the board and responded to commissioner requests.
The manager said commissioners received a flyer about a Chatham County Community Workshop on electric vehicle infrastructure deployment and training, scheduled for Tuesday the 28th at Savannah Technical College from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. He also recognized a cybersecurity officer, Scott Craig, for a first‑place award in a lab fire exercise.
Staff distributed a resiliency survey for the commission to provide input to a long‑range resiliency plan. The manager asked commissioners to complete and return the survey.
Commissioner Patrick K. Farrell asked the manager to look into ways the county might support active military families and government workers during a federal shutdown, including reviewing existing MOUs with organizations such as Second Harvest and options to direct people to local resources if SNAP benefits or pay are interrupted. The manager agreed to have staff prepare options.
Commissioners also asked staff to set up a town hall for Isle of Hope and Dutch Island residents to address misinformation and concerns about recent fire incidents; timing will be coordinated with local commissioners.
Why it matters: The workshop and survey relate to county planning and climate/resiliency goals; the manager’s promised review of supports responds to immediate community needs that could arise during a federal shutdown.
Ending: The manager and staff will follow up with details about the EV workshop, the resiliency survey results and options to support affected community members during a possible shutdown; a town hall planning for Isle of Hope/Dutch Island will be scheduled.
