NEPA study clears way for Verizon upgrade; county sees improved cell coverage

County staff told the commission that the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review for a proposed cell tower site came back without findings of Native American artifacts, clearing a regulatory step in the project. The file is now with Verizon for equipment installation.

Staff reported that recent equipment added to the existing tower functions as a booster and improved local signal strength; staff said Verizon’s equipment additions should further strengthen reception once Verizon completes its installation. Residents and commissioners said improved cell coverage will help public-safety and recreational users in the area.

No formal county action was recorded; staff said the project is now in the hands of Verizon and that additional provider equipment will be activated when installed.
