Council says food pantry may relocate under a multi-organization collaboration; property closing pending

Council members reported a potential collaborative relocation for the town food pantry involving the Land Bank, Nourish Nantucket, the Interfaith Council and a nonprofit organized to process deer. The group said the parties are optimistic but the property closing has not yet occurred.

Chair Veronica Golczyk said the effort is a collaboration including Nourish Nantucket and the Interfaith Council and named the deer-processing nonprofit as "ACTIER management" during the meeting; she described the status as “cautious optimism” while the property-transfer process proceeds. Council staff said the property closing is expected by the end of the month, after which renovations and operational planning would proceed.

Members said the collaboration could include processing capacity and space for the pantry; discussion noted additional operational steps and approvals will be required and that some operations may begin sooner if portions of the property can be put into use before full renovation.

No formal action or contract was approved at the Oct. 23 meeting; council members said they will report further details as the property transaction and operational plans progress.
