The Sullivan County Legislature read a proclamation recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month and presented it to members of the local Hispanic/Latino community.
The proclamation, read during the meeting, cited U.S. Census estimates and described the Hispanic population's economic and civic contributions nationally and within New York and Sullivan County. The text called on county residents to observe Hispanic Heritage Month by learning about Hispanic American history and engaging with local Hispanic community members.
County legislators presented the proclamation to Joel Santiago, who accepted it on behalf of the Spanish-speaking community and thanked the Legislature. The proclamation text praised Hispanic American participation across professions and the armed forces and noted local contributions to county government, nonprofit activity and business ownership.
The reading was followed by a brief recognition and applause. The proclamation will be entered into the meeting record as adopted by the Legislature.
