Representatives of the Farmington Public School Foundation (FPSF) presented a $30,000 commitment to the Farmington Board of Education on Oct. 21 to support enhanced biomedical pathways at Farmington High School.
"We agreed as a foundation to fund a grant in the tune of $30,000. So $10,000 for the next 3 years for that biomedical pathway," Carla, a Farmington Public School Foundation board member, told the board.
Carla and Kelly, also with the foundation, described other teacher-initiated and innovation projects the foundation has funded, including a bicycle-frame design and fabrication project at Farmington High School, sap-to-syrup programming at Union School and second-year funding for an initiative called "Nespresso and Beyond." The foundation said its work supports pathways that align with local partner institutions, noting Farmington'area assets such as UConn and Jackson Lab as community context for the biomedical pathway.
The district and foundation representatives characterized the partnership as part of a long-standing 25-year local foundation relationship that funds experimental and enrichment programming to expand students' access to career and college pathways. Foundation presenters encouraged community support and noted the foundation's presence on the Farmington Public Schools website and on Facebook for those interested in volunteering or donating.
Board members thanked foundation representatives and acknowledged the $30,000 pledge as seed funding to sustain and expand the STEM pathway at the high school.
