Commission approves extended-business-hours for Taboo Miami; one commissioner opposes

The City Commission on Oct. 21 approved a business-tax-receipt renewal that extends operating hours for Taboo Miami, an adult-entertainment venue, after hearing police incident data and staff recommendations.

Deputy Police Chief told the commission the department recorded 11 reports tied to the location during the previous year, including robberies and batteries; he said incident levels have decreased from prior years and the department had conducted enforcement related to underage or other violations.

After public comment and discussion, the commission approved the renewal for extended hours; a voice vote registered one opposing vote. City staff told the commission the approval is an annual business-tax-receipt action and will be revisited next year when the license comes up for renewal.

What’s next: The city will monitor incidents tied to the business and the matter will return on the next annual BTR renewal.
