Student board representatives told the Pasco School Board the Superintendent Student Action Council has 50 members this year, a majority of them new, and that the council used an "icebreaker" and an office tour to build connections and identify names for previously unnamed conference rooms.
Students said they toured district facilities and, recognizing a geographic theme, voted to name two rooms the Lewis and Clark Room and the Evergreen Room. They also reported Superintendent Whitney and staff described the district's structure to the council and that the council will draft a letter for board input at a future meeting.
The student representatives said Assistant Superintendent Carla Lobos and other administrators presented the district's structure and that principal-led book-study signups were offered. The council launched a voluntary book study on Anxious Generation; student representatives urged peers to sign up and said more than half of the council are new members this year.
Board members praised the student reports; the board asked the students to return with the drafted letter for feedback.
