Lawrence County Commissioners voted Oct. 14 to award a Shenango Township park improvement contract funded with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars.
Rebecca Schafer of the county planning office presented the recommendation and told commissioners the township and the planning office recommended awarding the work to the apparent low bidder for a total project cost of $98,045. Schafer said the funding will come from a two-year CDBG allocation that the county administers. Because commissioners and staff must attend another meeting later in the morning, the contract signing may be completed the following day.
Commissioners said they reviewed the bid documents at last week’s opening and that the apparent low bidder was a qualified contractor. The board approved the award by motion and roll call vote.
Why it matters: The project uses CDBG funds administered by the county to improve a municipal park in Shenango Township. Local officials told the planning office the improvements were a priority, and awarding the contract completes the procurement step so construction can proceed.
What’s next: County staff will finalize the contract paperwork and proceed with execution; Schafer said she would attempt to have the contract signed as soon as practical, possibly the day after the meeting.
