Lawrence County Commissioners on Oct. 14 approved a slate of appointments and reappointments to several county boards and authorities.
Planning Commission: The board appointed three alternate members to the Lawrence County Planning Commission (Res. 3-40 through 3-42): Maxwell Frederick (Wilmington Township), James Gagliano Jr. (North Beaver Township, former planning director and retired county administrator) and John Logan (Shannock Township). The planning director advised that state law is silent on the number of alternates, and the planning office recommended the appointments.
Federated Library System: The commissioners reappointed three members to the county’s federated library board (Res. 3-43 through 3-45): Joseph Ambrosini (City of Newcastle), John Long (North Beaver Township) and Philip Trandac (City of Newcastle). Staff noted minor paperwork corrections to reflect proper term dates.
Regional and authority appointments: The board reappointed Brad Berlin as the county’s citizen representative to the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission board (Res. 3-46) with a term through Dec. 31, 2029, and reappointed James R. Farris Jr. to the Lawrence County Airport Authority for a five‑year term (Res. 3-47); staff said Farris was the sole applicant after two public notices.
Why it matters: These volunteer and advisory positions shape county planning, library governance and regional representation and ensure the county has designated representatives at local and regional bodies.
What’s next: Appointees will serve their stated terms and the county planning and administrative offices will complete any remaining paperwork to formalize the appointments.
